He may be the King of Mandopop, but Jay Chou's no drama king.
His brainchild, drama Pandaman, was not nominated for any categories in the upcoming "Taiwan Golden Bell Awards".
Jay Chou reportedly invested a hefty sum of TWD 140mil (SGD 7mil) on the drama production - the highest in the history of Taiwanese television, to fulfil his and friends' childhood dreams of a sci-fi film.
According to reports, Pandaman's lead male star, Devon Song, was furious that the drama did not have a chance to compete for the awards, and felt indignant for all the hardworking cast and crew involved in the production.
"Jay Chou calls himself a 'money-tree', and he is not wrong. Everybody just wants to gain profits through him, and forgets that he has a hard time fulfilling everyone's wishes," said a fuming Devon.
He continued, "Jay has put in so much effort. What kind of a lousy (television) company is this? Before filming for Pandaman commenced, they've already earned more than TWD 10 billion in the drama's collectibles sales. And now they just wash their hands off the Golden Bell awards."
He added that he didn't care for an acting award but only wanted recognition for Jay Chou and the Pandaman crew.
When told about the news, Jay Chou was surprisingly calm, and expressed that he did not produce the drama just for an award.
