Jerry Yan down with gastritis 09/20/2010

Medical check-ups reveal that pop idol's illness is caused by stress

Jerry Yan is feeling under the weather these days.

According to reports, the Taiwanese singer-actor has not been in the best of health lately, often looking pale and haggard during public appearances.

The 33-year-old star was also said to be in weak health and being prone to recurring colds.

Speculations were rife that Jerry Yan could possibly be suffering from a strange illness, which had caused the 1.8m lanky hunk to suffer a weight lost.

Despite pleas from concerned fans, Jerry reportedly refused to undergo any forms of intrusive health check-ups, and only relented after much persuasion from his close doctor friend, Hou Wenyong.

"I arranged for it (the check-up). He is already a grown man and should do a full body examination once every year," said Hou.

He added that Jerry's illness was mostly due to pressure from work, and would develop into stomach ulcers if aggravated.

Jerry Yan has since started treatment for his condition.

Vic Zhou crazily studying Japanese for “Returning Home” drama role as doctor 09/19/2010

Filming for Vic Zhou's new drama "Returning Home" is just around the corner and the first batch of cast list is out, including Wang Que Qi, Yang Kuei-mei, Zhang Chen-Guang and Liu De-kai, full of big, authoritative stars. Zaizai will be playing a military doctor and will be sporting a "七分頭"* short hairstyle on screen, the shortest since his debut. After last year's Golden Bell award disappointment, Vic hopes to be affirmed by the public with <Home> under the accompaniment of so many skillful actors.

After completing "Black and White", Vic has decided not to accept any more roles in pure romance idol dramas. In the past half-year, he has only shot the film "Love you ten thousand years", rejecting almost 20 drama offers from both Taiwan and China, putting his focus in preparing for <Returning Home>.

The drama is about the story of Zaizai who received medical-training in Taiwan, and was sent by the Japanese army to Mainland China in 1945 during the Sino-Japanese War as a Taiwanese- Japanese military doctor**. He went through suffering until the victory of China over Japan, but due to his identity as part of the Japanese army, he was unable to return home (to Taiwan). Throughout the drama he will be tested on his deep emotional/ psyche acting, with heavy cross-scenes together with Wang Xue Qi who portrays a Kuomintang General.

Vic has been painstakingly learning Japanese for this drama, and the film crew arranged a doctor to train him on the proper use of stethoscope and scalpel of 60 years ago. Zaizai's manager Mr Chih said that when Zaizai chooses a role he does not consider winning awards but only care about whether there is unceasing growth. Thus he is looking forward to this drama for the opportunity to work with so many skillful and experienced actors.

Jay Chou adds another title to his resume: TV host Thursday September 16, 2010

The first episode of Chou's new talk show "Mr J Channel" was recorded on Tuesday, fulfilling the pop icon's dream of being a bona fide television host, reported Taiwan media.

Chou described his new show as "a combination of dance, music, wit and humour".

It will feature Chou's choreographer and dance trainer Ice Cream and Wheat, along with his make-up artist Du Guo Zhang and Eri Otoguro, a starlet who had previously appeared in one of Chou's music video.

"These people grew up with me and we are very familiar with what makes each other laugh. We have chemistry. The interaction will be very natural and the humour won't be fake," said Chou of the cast.

Of course, the man himself will also step up to do some hosting in each episode.

When asked if he, a man of few words, is confident of his hosting abilities, Chou replied that it will not be a problem.

"When I started out [in showbiz], I may have been a little worried. But after a decade in the entertainment industry, I am quite confident in my speaking ability now and I am not afraid of any awkward moments," said the 30-year-old.

However, the superstar went on to explicitly state that every episode will follow his strict policy of 'three don'ts' – he will not sing, dance or act.

Chou also pointed out that he has full say on the show's guests and "people whom I am always linked to will never appear".

Does that mean we will never see pop princess and ex Jolin Tsai on the show?

Chou answered the question with a smile and changed the topic to fellow singer Show Luo instead.

No award for Jay Chou's Pandaman September 15, 2010

Television station drops pop star's drama from award nomination list
Source : xinmsn.com

He may be the King of Mandopop, but Jay Chou's no drama king.

His brainchild, drama Pandaman, was not nominated for any categories in the upcoming "Taiwan Golden Bell Awards".

Jay Chou reportedly invested a hefty sum of TWD 140mil (SGD 7mil) on the drama production - the highest in the history of Taiwanese television, to fulfil his and friends' childhood dreams of a sci-fi film.

According to reports, Pandaman's lead male star, Devon Song, was furious that the drama did not have a chance to compete for the awards, and felt indignant for all the hardworking cast and crew involved in the production.

"Jay Chou calls himself a 'money-tree', and he is not wrong. Everybody just wants to gain profits through him, and forgets that he has a hard time fulfilling everyone's wishes," said a fuming Devon.

He continued, "Jay has put in so much effort. What kind of a lousy (television) company is this? Before filming for Pandaman commenced, they've already earned more than TWD 10 billion in the drama's collectibles sales. And now they just wash their hands off the Golden Bell awards."

He added that he didn't care for an acting award but only wanted recognition for Jay Chou and the Pandaman crew.

When told about the news, Jay Chou was surprisingly calm, and expressed that he did not produce the drama just for an award.

Turns out the diva had her eyes on the Rolex watch ever since she saw Show Luo sporting one.

The humourous Show even insisted on a kiss on the cheeks from Jolin before handing his present over, to which the diva conceded to after contemplating for a while.

According to reports, Jolin had set a "no-presents" rule for the party, as she only wanted to have a good time with her friends.

However, her friends turned up with gifts all the same.

Besides a Rolex watch, Jolin also received two bracelets - a TWD 270,000 (SGD 13,000) Cartier bracelet from her record company boss Chen Zeshan and a diamond one that is reportedly worth millions, from her manager Ge Fuhong.

Seeing the luxurious gifts amounting to more than millions of dollars on her hands, friends joked that they "wish to chop off her hands and snatch it over."

Lately, Rainie Yang has gained a bit of weight from all the snacking during the filming for her new drama, “Sunshine Angel”. Although Rainie admits that she is not the slimmest person, her co-star Wu Chun responded without thinking, “Yeah, you’re pretty ‘round’ (chubby).” Rainie immediately said not once, but twice, “In the 26 years of my life, no one has ever said that I’m ‘round’!” Wu Chun apologized right away, but it was obviously too late.

Wu Chun eats with his own menu and has a set of workouts that he does; Rainie makes fun and even calls him, “Instructor Wu.” Rainie reveals that she feels pressured even when eating alongside him.

Rainie further says that Wu Chun would enthusiastically teach them how to work out on their waist and hip areas and guarantees that they will “definitely slim down in two months.” Rainie joked to Wu Chun, “If when I’m unemployed, I’ll go become a trainer at your fitness center in Brunei.” But Wu Chun had his doubts, so Rainie quickly added, “I can teach dancing. I’m famous! And I’ll take a base salary of eighty thousand (~$2,500 USD).”

Although Rainie is quite proud of her new c-cup size, she says that she will work hard to slim down for her upcoming concert in October at Singapore.
